Thoughts on this weight training/ body weight program, is it lapsing in to over training?

Question by Vincent Strife: Thoughts on this weight training/ body weight program, is it lapsing in to over training?
Hi all, I would really like to hear some educated advice/ thoughts on this program please.
Basically I’m switching from 5k running to weights and bodyweight exercises. I already have a high standard of fitness
To give you a quick background on my fitness, I ran 5k’s at around 19minutes and my best mile time was 5 minutes. I can also do 3 sets of 12 perfect form low dips and 3 sets of 10 chin ups and 8 pull ups in perfect form.
I want to be doing this all over body workout 3 times a week, Monday/ Tuesday/ Friday… with the aim of putting on some more weight in muscle and getting a bit stronger than I am.
These will be done in the order typed down, with 60-90 seconds rest in between sets… and 60-90 seconds between exercises.
Dumbbell Bench Press – 5 Sets of 5 reps max weight, increasing each week
Dumbbell Squats – 5 Sets of 5 reps max weight, increasing each week
Dumbbell Overhead Press – 5 Sets of 5 Reps max weight, increasing each week
Reverse crunch 3 sets for max per set, increasing by 2 reps per week
Dips or Press ups (alternating on each workout) Dips 3 sets x Max increasing by 1 each week, same applies to press ups
Suspended Leg raises (From bars) 3 sets x Max increasing by 2 each week
Pull ups or Chin ups (Alternate on each workout) 3 sets x Max increasing by 1 each week on both.
My worry is that this could lead to overtraining muscles and not gaining any mass. My diet consists of 1g of protein per lean pound, so around 170 grams of protein per day + plenty of calories and carbs.
I was doing StrongLifts 5 x 5 for the past 2 months and have put on 4 pounds of muscle, but I feel my cardio is suffering with such short workouts. Hopefully this one will get cardio going with short rests.
Sorry for the length of the post, I’m just very keen that you understand that I am fully prepared and able to perform this workout.
Cheers,
Olly

I think this sounds pretty good. 7 exercises, 5, sets, 5 reps.
I do 12 exercises, 3 sets, 8 reps, and that’s 3 days a week now. I’ve seen huge size/strength changes so I think yours should be pretty good.
What works even better though, is to really mix it up. So instead of doing DB bench press every day, change between other chest things (eg. incline bench press, pectoral fly, pushups etc). When you can’t get used to something it works more.
Good luck!

High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is dangerous because it makes the heart work harder to pump blood to the body and it contributes to hardening of the arteries or atherosclerosis.

Is this twice-a-day workout program safe?
Nov 22nd
Any uncomplicated info round cardiovascular – ahead of we chat involved with how considerably aerobics cardio you should do, you ought to at least know why it is so critical. Cardiovascular workout simply indicates that you’re included in an activity that raises your center rate to some degree where you’re doing work, but can nonetheless talk (aka, as part of your Target Heart Rate Zone).
Question by Jonny_Boi: Is this twice-a-day workout program safe?
I already do P90X so I do the following:
Day 1 is on a Monday and Day 7 is on a Sunday.
Day 1 – Chest & Back + Ab Ripper X + Bench Pressing
Day 2 – Plyometrics
Day 3 – Shoulders & Arms + Ab Ripper X
Day 4 – Yoga X
Day 5 – Legs & Back + Ab Ripper X + Squating
Day 6 – Kenpo X
Day 7 – Stretch
The above is always at home. However I took fitness and HAVE to do weight training and my teacher said it was alright to work out twice a day as long as you weren’t working out the same body parts. So I was thinking of doing:
Day 1 (Monday) – Light Leg Workouts at School
Day 2 – Just regular games like dodgeball
Day 3 – Cardio (work on the treadmill and etc.)
Day 4 – Just regular games like dodgeball
Day 5 – Chest & Back workouts
Day 6 (at home) – Arms (doing this so arms won’t look disproportionate compared to the rest of the body
Day 7 – Rest
If I take proper supplementation would this be alright? This is all just for 90 days (well 80 days from today), and once I finish the school semester and P90X, I’ll be doing my own thing. I’m only 16 btw. I heard muscle needs 48 hours to repair thus I gave each muscle group a 72 hour break and I’ll be taking whey protein!

I would throw out the light legs and chest & back and arms during school. The light legs might be OK to increase blood flow after the hard P90X routine but I would just stick to the P90X itself.

Don’t do Cardio and then Legs, overtraining is workout out a muscle before it fully recovers. When you do cardio and run, you are still working out your legs and they do take pressure.
Maybe start with cardio on day 1, then day 2 do upper body, and day 3 do legs, day 4 you can rest, and repeat.

Question by megan.soudah: Is this a good way to lose weight?
First off, I am 13 years old and weigh 165 pounds. I really want to lose. So I started exercising 3 times a week by doing a cardio workout and sit up workout that i found online. I get tired and feel the burn so I know its working. I also do DDR or dance dance revolution 3 times a week and it tells me how much calories I burn and thats about at least 200. I have cut everything sugary in my diet. Like cookies chips soda or anything else anymore. I have already lost 5 pounds. But that was when i first started like about 4 weeks in. Now I heard that green tea can help you lose weight by increasing metabolism and I have a very slow metabolism. I use Salada green tea and put 3 splenda packets in it. The Salada green tea packets are green and the box was thrown out so I cant really tell the kind it was. I have only been doing it for one day but I wanted to see if it was going to work. What should I change in this diet?
I move around a lot. I would move more but i have school and i mostly sit at my desk.
please no pills
remember i am 13 years old!

ECHOCARDIOGRAM REPORT
LOCATION: Inpatient, Hospital
PATIENT: Marilyn Aschoff
ATTENDING PHYSICIAN: David Barton, MD
RADIOLOGIST: Morton Monson, MD
INDICATION: Shortness of breath and atrial fibrillation
FINDINGS by means of 2-D and M-mode echocardiography:
CARDIAC CHAMBERS: The left atrium was mildly dilated and measured 4.4 cm.
There was no evidence of atrial thrombi. The aortic root dimensions were within normal
limits. The left ventricle was normal in size. There was mild concentric left ventricular
hypertrophy. There was severe diffuse hypokinesis. The apex was kinetic. The overall
ejection fraction was about 15%–20%. The right atrium was mildly dilated. The right
ventricle was normal in size.
VALVES: The mitral valve has mild fibrocalcific changes, but more so the posterior
leaflet, with mitral annulus calcification. The mitral valve excursion was adequate.
There was aortic sclerosis, without significant stenosis. The tricuspid valve was grossly
normal. The pulmonic valve was not well visualized.
DOPPLER AND COLOR DOPPLER INTERROGATION reveals the presence of severe
mitral and tricuspid insufficiency. The calculated right ventricular systolic pressure
was 42 mmHg.
CONCLUSION:
1. Severe left ventricular dysfunction.
2. Severe mitral and tricuspid insufficiency.
3. Mild to moderate pulmonary hypertension.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Digitalization.
2. Afterload reducing agents.
3. Diuretics.
4. If this patient is labile, then bilateral heart catheterization should be considered.
Although the LV function is severely reduced, part of that could be due to the
fact that she has been tachycardic for a long period of time, i.e., can be tachycardia
induced.

Question by Ask abOut me__*: Is this considered cardio?
I use the Crossramp at the gym on alternating days.
I use to machine for an hour.
On the machine it says that it targets:
-glutes
-calves
-hamstrings
-quadriceps
I want my whole body to be in shape not just my lower body.
I don’t really use my arms using this machine.
Is this cardio? It gets my heart rate up & it makes me sweat but why does it say that it targets those areas?
If you don’t what a Crossramp is click on this link;

Answer by xoinfinityox
It is cardio if your heart rate is up considerably. Running also targets those muscles and is definately cardio as well. With cardio you will lose weight all over not just on your legs. To gain muscle tone you will need to add a weight lifting program in to get your upper and lower body in shape. An hour of cardio will not really help with muscle building unless you are doing high intensity sprinting.
