Question by blank: What is the second best hospital in Massachusetts for diabetes?
I know theres Joslin Diabetes center.But what is the second best.Or what are some good hospitals to treat this?
My cousin has diabetes but does not want to go to Joslin because that is where our uncle passed and it brings back bad memories.Her PCP told her to choose a hospital.The local one sucks.

Mass Gen is the best hospital for Diabetes (2nd best in the country).
Brigham and Women’s is the second best for Diabetes (10th best in the country)

Question by Mike: What are the chances of me getting diabetes?
I was wondering what the chances of me are of getting diabetes. My grand mom has diabetes(well I think she does she has a machine to check her blood sugar but i never saw her inject herself with insolen) and both of her sisters sons also have diabetes. I think there are about 1 or 2 more people who have it but I cant think of them.
Also does your diet have any effect on wether you can get diabetes or not and how often should I get checked for it?

There is a possibility you can get it. Cut down or keep away from sugars, sweets and carbs.

I found out that my dad has been diagnosed as having pre-diabetes. I was told that I may have some of the symptoms that may indicate the same thing. For instance, I get shaky and irritable if I haven’t eaten in a long while. How can I modify my diet so that I won’t get diabetes and have to be on insulin all the rest of my life?

Eat a balanced diet, cut out alot of processed sugar, exercise. Type 2 diabetes is almost in every case preventable through a healthy life style. If you feel irritable don’t go for something sugary, eat something with alot of fiber like whole grain bread or things with complex carbohydrates like potatoes, this raises your glucose levels slower and keeps them going longer

There seems to be a 10% to 30% incidence of depression in people who have diabetes {Source: ADA}. The cause remains unknown. Some people believe that the depression stems from the inability to control blood sugar levels, and the (misplaced)guilt of not managing it. I have my own theories, though. Unlike natural human insulin, the current crop of synthetic insulins do not permeate the blood-brain barrier. Besides, C-Peptide, a protein that is produced by the beta cells of the pancreas along with insulin, is not added to the synthetic insulin. Does this lack of C-Peptide in some way induce depression in diabetics? Or is it because current synthetic insulins don’t permeate the blood-brain barrier? We don’t know. Yet. What is known is that we have to be proactive in helping diabetics combat depression.
There is no cure for diabetes, yet. And no, I am not depressed, and don’t see myself getting depressed. Yet.
