The Grand Phoenician Ballroom lighting fixture.
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Promise Ball was held at the Grand Phoenician Ballroom at the Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona on January 27, 2008. Very elegant Black Tie affair.

"JDRF is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 (juvenile) diabetes research worldwide. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is a disease which strikes children suddenly and requires multiple injections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump. Insulin, however, is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation. "

Low carb almond oatmeal cupcakes

I came up with this recipe for children with diabetes. The holiday season is upon us. Diabetics have it tough during this time of the year, especially children, because we cannot indulge in all the sweet treats that start emerging from ovens and kitchens all over. This recipe goes easy on the carbs, while giving kids with diabetes an option to snack on cupcakes that are yummy and healthy.

What are the health determinants for diabetes?
Mar 12th
Question by : What are the health determinants for diabetes?
What are the health determinants that influence the appearance of diabetes (type 1 or 2) in children?
Best answer:
Answer by Gary B
Type 1 diabetes is inherited. The “health determinants” are the DNA of your parents and grandparents. If THEY have Type 1 Diabetes, then you might, too.
Type 2 Diabetes is caused by being overweight. The “health determinants” for Type 2 Diabetes are a poor diet, lack of exercise, and weight gain. You can PREVENT Type 2 Diabetes by eating a healthy diet that is low in sugars and carbohydrates, getting LOTS more exercise, and controlling your weight.
Type 1 Diabetes, IF it is going to attack, USUALLy happens in children. It is NOT preventable, and it is not curable. It can be treated ONLY using insulin injections.
Type 2 Diabetes is USUALLY found in adult. But people are eating more and exercising less, so the “minimum age” for Type 2 Diabetes is getting lower and lower. type 2 Diabetes USED to be found in adults over 40. It is now found in adults between 25 and 30. ANd in extremely obese children, Type 2 Diabetes has been diagnoses as young as NINE YEARS OLD.

November 3 2007 day 23 – Baking while being diabetic

Today marks the last day of the weekly focus topic of Food in the Diabetes 365 project. The biggest challenge for a diabetic is food, because what a diabetic consumes directly and immediately impacts blood sugars. We are fortunate that we live in a time where we can continue to indulge in tasty treats while watching our carbs. The advent of sugar-free syrups, low carb. flours, low/non fat cream cheese and other healthy low fat and low carb. ingredients have made it easier for diabetics to concoct tasty treats that rival the original recipe.
I embarked on a baking spree today. I’m trying two new recipes. I’m experimenting with a low fat mocha cheesecake, and I’m also trying to concoct low carb. pumpkin cake. How did they turn out?I don’t know. The cheesecake just came out of the oven, and is cooling down before it goes into the refrigerator. The pumpkin cake is now in the oven, hopefully rising.
I’m just glad that I have the ability to procure the ingredients and try these recipes. Here’s the irony: It is cheaper to eat high carb., high fat foods than it is to lead a healthy lifestyle with a healthy diet. This is another sad aspect of diabetes. It is not a poor man’s disease.
There is no cure for diabetes, yet.

Question by pat g: what help can i get for diabetes and the sun?
I am feeling ill with this hot weather arriving. Is there anything I can do to keep my diabetes in check?
Also should I take more care in this hot weather?
Best answer:
Answer by Cammie
You are correct.
In any different [ changing ] environments, you need to check more frequently.
In this hot weather [ 101 here right now ] use fans and drink much more than usual.
Although you may not feel like it, you still need to eat.
Try sandwiches , cold salads and cold soups.
You can eat frozen pops, especially sugar free, to help keep you cool.

How should I write a BIOLOGY issue report on Diabetes?
Mar 2nd
Question by : How should I write a BIOLOGY issue report on Diabetes?
For my A-Level course I have to write a report on a problem in Biology that is being solved at the moment. Being interested in medicine, I chose Diabetes.
I have to talk about what Diabetes is, how it’s being solved and the alternative methods of solving it.
I know putting up a question on Yahoo answers is a bit ‘cheaty’, but it is a very difficult course so I don’t care. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

What type of diabetes does my grandpa have?
Mar 2nd
Question by : What type of diabetes does my grandpa have?
He developed it later in life (40ish). So that automatically makes you think he has type 2, but he has to check his sugar very often, he wears an insulin pump, and his sugar gets outrageous at times. He use to inject shots before he got the pump. That makes me think he has type 1. I don’t know enough about diabetes though. Since he has diabetes, what are the chances that I will develop it later in life?

Answer by iAmuse
It’s two.
