I agree, breastfeeding. I lost 15 of the 33 lbs I gained just at birth. Then lost pretty much the rest of it just thru breastfeeding within 2 months. I have just now started doing exercise to lose the last few pounds and my baby is 5 months old.

With my son I didn't loose a damn thing after birth! According to the scale in the hospital I was 147 when I went in and I was 145 when I left! He weighed near 8 pounds so how the heck was that possible?? I think it was all the fluids they put in me from the IV. By the time I was 6 weeks PP I weighed 118 and then I was back to my pre-preggo weight about 4 weeks later. I breastfed him exclusively - no bottles, pacis or baby foods for the first 6 months, then complimented his breastfeeding with baby foods until 12 months. He continued to breastfeed past 2 years.

It took 9 months to put in on, it should take that long to take it off - so don't rush it if it takes longer than some other women.

With my daughter - a home birth, I lost 15 pounds by the time she was an hour old! I wasn't hooked up to an IV, but I was able to eat and drink as I pleased during labor. I weighed about 156 before I gave birth. By the time she was 8 weeks old, I was down to 122, then it stayed steady there until she was about 8 months old where I started to loose more weight and got below pre-preggo weight. Now its a fight to keep the weight on! I breastfed her exclusively - no bottles, pacis or baby foods for the first 6 months, then complimented her breastfeeding with baby foods until 12 months. She is 13.5 months and still breastfeeding.

I asked if I could weigh myself the day after having my baby, I felt soo skinny after he was out I wanted to check out my weight LOL and I had only lost 9 pounds!! And he weighed 8lbs15oz! AHH!
But within the next 2 weeks I lost 27 more, I really do think breastfeeding helped me shed the pounds because that is all I did. I still have about 5 more to go and he's 5 months old now.
Good luck, don't stress out about your weight, it took 9 months to put it on so it will take about that to get it off. Some people lose more than they gained though so ya never know :)

Congrats on the baby!

Breastfeed breastfeed breastfeed! It will help that your baby is heavy because she will want to eat ALL THE TIME and by all means feed her! Every hour, whenever she wants. I only gained 29 lbs. but I was afraid to step on the scale for six weeks and when I did, I only had two more pounds to lose and now (12wks post) I'm ten pounds under.

Well, if you breastfeed you burn up to 1,200 calories a day(the more milk you make the more calories you burn). Your tummy tightens after each feeding(you uterus contracts). So you loose the weight with out the diet and exercise:) The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding until at least 12 months, the World Health Organization recommends for the first 2 years.

Congrats and good luck!

Most women lose an average of 8-12 pounds when they give birth. This includes the weight of the baby, the amniotic fluid, the placenta, and blood loss.
If you have a lot of fluid retention you can expect to lose more. The swelling should go down very soon (within a week) after giving birth). If you breastfeed the weight will also come off faster because breastfeeding requires a lot of calories.
I was worried too, I've gained 30 lbs and I'm at 31 weeks, I eat healthily and exercise almost daily.
Just make sure what you are doing is safe for your baby. The weight will come off faster than you think, but make sure you eat healthily and exercise after the baby is born. SOme women think that all of their extra weight gain will go away right when they give birth..not true, all the fat you are storing is for the baby...it creates very healthy breastmilk.
