Jul 29th
Question by Dark )o( Divine: What are some natural ways to treat depression and anxiety?
I have been living with extreme depression for years. In 2007 I experienced my first bout of panic attacks and anxiety developed as well as hypochondria. I won’t take western medication unless I absolutely have to. So instead I look more towards natural methods of healing. What are some ways to help control and prevent depression, anxiety, panic attacks and especially hypochondria? Advice, personal experience and links are welcome! Thanks!

I have anxiety, and panic attacks expecially when I’m under stress.
Strees turns into>anxiety>into depression.
So first of all you need to learn how to take CONTROL..
to take things slower and to pay more attention to your thoughts .analyze yourself and correct yourself.
that’s what I do..for ex:I get stress from my boyfriend and I START panicking wondering if my parents are OK and I want to call them in the middle of the night but I tell myself “think positive, remember it’s your stupid anxiety instead of you thinking positive, you’re being negative!!you’re thinking too much on the things you DON;T WANT TO HAPPEN!! that’s all “so I calm down and realyze it’s in my head.sometimes it’s gonna work and sometimes it’s not.but thats fine, it will take time if you want this to workthere’s no magic trick.
it’s about calming down by eating less sugars, less caffine, taking walks in the park, taking life slow and step by step, exercising feeling and looking good(self estem) , listening to music while you cook shower clean, hmmm, sleeping enough hours extremely important!! drink your fruits and vitamins it will help PMS_____
and help balance hormones(imbalance can cause worser anxiety), drink tea called chamimile(something like that)it’s a natural herb medecine for stress 100%natural as well as all the ideas above..lol hmm but yeah check out video on youtube.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=df13RqOaybc&feature=related
and check out this website it gives more info on natural ways to treat anxiety and panic attacks::

How do you avoid depression when a military boyfriend is away?

Question by Erin: How do you avoid depression when a military boyfriend is away?
I’m thankful that he is not deployed, I don’t know how I would handle that, but my boyfriend is in the Army and is across the country for several months. How can I avoid the depression while he is gone? Living in a seemingly empty apartment now, how can I fill the void that seems to suck the life right out of me? Any suggestions that avoid getting pets would be so helpful.

Would the Great Depression have occurred if the monopolies of the early 20th century were left intact?

Question by rdappa: Would the Great Depression have occurred if the monopolies of the early 20th century were left intact?
These companies were huge! Would FDR have to bail them out during the Depression? Or was it more like the Compromise of 1850, only delaying the inevitable onslaught of the Depression? Would the Great Depression have occurred earlier?

It is hard to say of course but there were a number of factor affecting the Great Depression.
There has never been one consensus explanation for the Great Depression. Since 1929, economists and historians have developed a number of competing theories to explain the American economy’s disastrous performance in the 1930s, and their debates over the true causes of the Depression—which have profound public-policy implications even today—have often been quite contentious.

Question by Tanja: What damage does depression do to the brain and how can you treat it?
How does it effect your chemical balance, your brain? Is it critical or will be critical later in life? I just read on Yahoo News that Clinical stress could increase risk of Alzheimer’s later in life. Does age matter like during teen years? I had depression and begun running. I noticed that I have a hard time focusing and absorbing information. I forgot a lot of things. All my brain seems to focus on is emotions. Can I change that? The running has made me feel a lot better afterwards.

Question by Wutz it worth 2 ya?: What is the difference between mild depression, severe depression and being bi polar?
How is being bi polar different from clinical depression? Is being bi polar a disabilty, disease, both or neither?
Best answer:
Answer by omfgzzitsjessica
Mild depression is simply feeling sad and loss of interest, and in some cases mild anxiety. Severe depression is feeling sad, lost of interest, anxiety, and sometimes suicidal thoughts/attempts or thoughts or self-injury or attempts of self-injury. Bi-polar is totally different. You can become Bipolar from having depression, but they’re two totally different disorders. When you’re Bipolar you have mood swings, and when you’re depressed your mood usually stays the same. All being Bipolar is is having extreme mood swings, and some have intrusive thoughts. Like I said, two totally different disorders.

What is the worst about having depression or bipolar disorder ?
Jul 29th
From the Dorothea Lange Collection – photos of migrants in California during the Great Depression (1935-1945). It is interesting how the thread of comments for this video has taken a life of its own. I posted this video as a tribute to Dorothea Lange, as her amazing photos transcend both race and time. She had a unique ability to recognize and capture the soul of people who struggled under extreme conditions. Many people from the Great Depression went on to lead long productive lives, and it is heartening to read comments from relatives of those who survived. Perhaps we can all learn from the photos and the glimpse they provide into American history.

See stress treatments, at ezy build, below, in section 42. A certain level of stress is unavoidable, in modern society, so it is a good idea to develop effective coping methods. For others, or yourself: A massage (at least neck and shoulders) with jasmine, lavender, juniper, and/or bergamot, or German chamomile essential oils added to the massage oil, and to a warm bath, preferably beforehand, to help make any tension knots and muscles more pliant (they may only want, say, a juniper and/or bergamot and/or sandalwood mix: check first). I am aware of advice that strong heat, applied to essential oils can damage them, and so I would not use a diffuser.
Also consider anise, basil, bay, eucalyptus, peppermint, rose, and thyme. Place some pieces of rock salt in a small vial, then add a few drops of the oil of your choice (the rock salt absorbs the oil and is less risky to carry around than a bottle of oil). Open the vial and breathe in the scent whenever you need a quick stress release. See if they will do long, stretching yoga exercises, or t’ai chi with you (see section 2, at ezy build, below).
Practise daily, one of the relaxation techniques on pages 2, 11, 2c, or 2i; whichever works best for you, but the mindfulness breathing for 15 – 20 mns is ideal, although the progressive muscle relaxation can be learned quickly, and takes only several minutes, if pressed for time. Repeat: “I feel calm” and/or “I can handle this.” Employ the EFT version for use in public, for which you can reasonably claim that you have a headache, as you massage/tap your temples, but it may be advisable to restrict yourself to subvocalising (saying it to yourself, in your mind, not aloud). Section 53, and pages 2, 2.q and 2.o refer. “Even though I sometimes suffer from stress, I deeply and completely accept myself”.
A variant of EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy, which has been used successfully for those people suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, insomnia, and anxiety, is shown in section 42, on page i. I have found that the 2 – 3 minutes spent using the EMDR markedly reduces distractions to the relaxation process, and is repaid many times over. You can also multitask, using the gazing technique, as you walk/jog or exercise, by focusing on a distant object, or just focus awareness on how each step feels, noting any thoughts which flash across your mind, without pursuing any particular train of thought, just gently redirect your focus to the task at hand.
For some people, it helps to visualise of a quiet, relaxing scene, (Imagine, as vividly as you can, that you are on a tropical beach, reclining comfortably; you luxuriate, as the the sun warms you, and a gentle breeze caresses your skin lightly, inhaling the tangy, sea scented, salt laden spray from the sparkling, translucent, aqua waves, crashing on the white, coral beach sand, and feeling the hot sand slip through your fingers in one hand, sipping your favorite drink with the other; all the while, the seagulls call, swoop and cavort playfully overhead in a cloudless, azure sky: you feel just like one of them, free to soar and cartwheel, or just glide in the moist, heavy air, and that this moment will last forever … ).

and the audio, as well as the printed version, at: http://www.lessons4living.com/relaxation… and http://www.amazon.com/Ambient-Rain-Sound… or the mountain river sounds. Take 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily: (certified free of mercury) it is best if consumed with an antioxidant, such as an orange, or grapefruit, or their FRESHLY SQUEEZED juice. If vitamin E is added, it should be certified as being 100% from natural sources, or it may be synthetic: avoid it.
Ginseng & Lady’s Slipper are recommended herbal remedies.
Light to moderate daily exercise helps fight stress. http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris Depression: section 2; see page R first, then page V, and the rest.

What is clinical depression and is it different from just having the blues or feeling tired?
Jul 29th
IMPORTANT: There have been a few requests concerning this video. The first is to notify people that when preparing lentils to check for stones. There should be a warning about this on the packaging of your lentils and please follow their instructions. The second item is a question about why Clara reuses the lemon from the marinade. It has long been known that citric acid (in this case a lemon) is nature’s anti-bacterial agent. Today it is more commonly known as produce wash or FIT (Fruit and Vegetable Wash). There are many studies out today that consider FIT a more successful anti-bacterial agent than chlorine dioxide (which is produced chemically rather than naturally). Many cultures continue to use the citric acid from lemons and limes to cleanse meat and fish as this marinade does. Clara cooks quite responsibly and always uses the freshest meats and fish when preparing her meals. You must always cook any meal at any time at your own risk. Clara is only providing you with lessons she has learned and she has lived to a ripe old age. If you are nervous about her tips then just enjoy the videos for the historical value. If you are curious about the science behind citric acid you can find many articles online as well as this one here: www.upi.com Thanks again for your concern and enjoy the show. 93 year old cook and great grandmother, Clara, recounts her childhood during the Great Depression as she prepares meals from the era. clinical depression is all day, everyday. It also means that the serotonin levels in your brain are off. Which is completely different. You either see a psychologist or a psychiatrist.
